“If I Want to Live the Same Life as Everybody Else…I Should Do What Everybody Else Does.
If I Want to Live a Life That’s Truly Great…I Need to Do What Great People Do.” ~ Andy Frisella
Most people construct their entire existence around the guidelines and boundaries established by society and the people around them. If I’m unable to step outside the box of what’s “normal,” I’ll never find out who I truly am or what my authentic purpose is. I’ll just be following along with the herd instead of looking inward and discovering my own unique path.
Just because “everybody else does it” doesn’t mean I should. In fact, most of the time, this should be a bright neon sign telling me to do something completely different. That’s what great people understand – the courage to be an individual. They don’t derive their worth from fitting in, but from standing out.
The brass tacks of it is this: I need to continue to develop the audacity to unapologetically be who I was meant to be and pursue the dreams and goals that actually light me up inside. If I’m not living life on my own terms according to my own rules and values, then I’m just living it on somebody else’s meaningless script.
I refuse to do that. I should refuse to do that, because settling for a life of conformity is a soul-crushing way to exist.
Great people don’t follow the herd mentality. They boldly blaze their own trails. They have the guts to think differently, live differently, and create their own realities. They’re willing to take calculated risks and zig when others zag. They challenge the status quo rather than just mindlessly accepting it.
If I want a life that’s truly extraordinary and fulfilling, I have to be willing to do what the majority is not. I have to muster the courage to go against the grain, to swim upstream, to carve my own pioneering path through the wilderness. It’s the road less traveled for a reason – it’s not easy. But that’s why it’s so worth it.
It won’t be easy, but anything great never is. Challenges are a given. Doubters and naysayers are inevitable. But if I stay true to myself, it will be worth weathering any storm. Because at the end of the day, the only life I have to answer for is my own. I need to make it count in ways that are profoundly meaningful to me. I need to make it remarkable on my own terms. I need to make it unapologetically authentic to who I am at my core.
The choice to live an exceptional life or an ordinary one is mine and mine alone. I choose to make my life a masterpiece.
Goals have been created. Steps are being taken. The plan is in place.
I will not go quietly. I will make my mark on the world. I will be an example for women over 60. I will live a life of excellence proving that it is never to late to begin…even if it’s again!
With much love,
